Survive and Save - Core & Medallion

BRONZE
 
Bronze - Core and Medallion with Life Support

 

Pre-requisites

Must be capable of swimming 50m in under 1 minute, swimming 200m non-stop, swimming in clothes for 5 minutes.

Minimum age of 12 years before final examination date.

 

 

Most schools accept either the Bronze or Silver award for Duke of Edinburgh's Award (Skills) Please check with your school before sending in your application. 

(Note - the GCSE exam boards no longer accept Life Saving as one of the sports for GCSE - PE) 

 

 

These awards are not recognised by the Health & Safety Executive as being suitable for full and part-time work as a Lifeguard

 

All RLSS awards are valid for 2 years.

Times and Costs 

Cost of £80 to include the pool admission and final exam fee.

Additional cost of £10 includes the "Survive and Save Candidates Manual" - required edition 2011 or later.

 

Approximately 15 weekly sessions of 1 hour theory (8 to 9pm) plus 1 hour pool work (9 to 10pm) at Southgate Leisure Centre.

 

 

Next Courses

Start 14th January 2022 - 8 to 9pm theory some weeks and water work 9 pm until 10.15pm every week
 

Start October 2019, exam Dec 2019 (including half term)

There are a max number of candidates that can attend - Special costs will apply as it is only half term  . 

SILVER
 
 
Silver - Core and Medallion with Life Support

 

Pre-requisites

Must be capable of swimming 100m in under 2 minutes, swimming 400m non-stop, swimming in clothes for 10 minutes.

Recommended minimum age of 14 years but this is dependant on swimming ability

Gold - Core and Medallion with Life Support

 

Pre-requisites

All candidates MUST already hold the SILVER Core and Medallion award.

Must be capable of swimming 200m (7 lengths of pool) in under 4 minutes and swimming 800m non-stop

.

Recommended minimum age of 15 years but this is dependent on swimming ability for the pre-requisites as above.

 

These awards are not recognised by the Health & Safety Executive as being suitable for full and part-time work as a Lifeguard
