Rookie Awards


Rookie Gold Award - Stages 1, 2 or 3


Stage 1 - must be capable of swimming non-stop 400m on front and back

During the course they will required to swim in clothing (Swimwear; long sleeved shirt; trousers or a skirt) which they will require about week 3.   

They will be taught different types of rescue including reaching, wading, rope throw and towing rescues.  Recover a "body" from a depth of 1.5m  and also an initiative rescue.  Estimated completion time half a term.


Stage 2 - must hold Rookie Stage 1 - swim test 400m good stroke in 12 minutes.

They will be taught more advanced rescues over greater distances  and more emphasis placed on initiative rescues and after-care. 


Stage 3 - must hold Rookie Stage 2 - swim test 400m in clothing, 3 different strokes in 15 mins 

This also includes the Rookie Life Support Award (or Adult Life Support Award) which includes resuscitation and chest compressions on a dummy  as well as turning a live casualty for recovery position. 


Please Note : 


We do not run courses for Rookie Bronze and Silver award as we consider that the 10pm end of our session is too late for the average age range for candidate for these awards.

Times and Costs 

Stages 1 & 2 - 9-10pm in the pool, £20 for approx. 5-6 weeks

Life Support Award (standalone) - 8-9pm in the studio, £20 for approx. 5-6 weeks

Stage 3 (inc Life Support) 8-10pm in studio and pool, £35 for approx. 5-6 weeks

Stage 3 (exc Life Support) 9-10pm pool, £20 for approx. 5-6 weeks
