NPLQ with AED
National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ) with Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
We do not employ Lifeguards
Pre-requisites - Min age 16 yrs before 1st May 2024
Can swim on front and back.
Can land from deep water without using the use of steps. Recover a object from the floor of the pool at a depth of 3.8 m

Times and Costs
Start Friday 12th January 2024
Friday evenings for about 14 weekly sessions 6.30pm to 10.15pm. The first 2.5 hours will be theory and then 1 hour water work.
Cost of the handbook, award cost, hire of pool and theory room and the final assessment will be included. Making a total cost of the course of £250. In the event of a failure of one or more sections of the assessment an additional fee may be required for pool/room hire and external assessor.
Attendance at all sessions is essential.

Alternatively. For us to reserve a place for you, we require a £80 deposit with application form. This deposit is only refundable if you cancel your place before 5th January. The remaining fee will be a further £170 should be paid before the second session (ie total of £250)
It is hoped a further course will be planned for Autumn term 2024 term - details available about end June.
Continuous Certified training
NPLQ with AED
Continuous Certified Training of National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ) with Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
Pre-requisites -
All candidates must hold a valid NPLQ.
The NPLQ only remains valid with a further 20 hours of Continuous Certified Training during the 2 year period.
This course covers these conditions.

RENEWAL of NPLQ with AED
RENEWAL of National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ) with Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
Pre-requisites -
All candidates must hold a valid NPLQ with expiry after the renewal examination date

The Renewal course covers the same syllabus
The assessment for most of our summer course in 2016 were on various dates in July 2016 and will expire this July. You must have attended 20 hours of certified training before being reassessed For those who have not done certified in-house staff training they should attend at least 8 of our normal Friday sessions before the expiry date of their present NPLQ Award. (ie start early/mid May)
The 3 candidates who were assessed in September 2016 are advised to attend the same sessions as above as we do not hold classes in August..

Cost of £120
- or £70 if original NPLQ was taken with ESLS
The fee includes the pool admission, & final exam fee. A 9th generation handbook is available to purchase at £20 extra.
There is a min. requirement of 20 hrs attendance for the NPLQ course (excluding exams)
The course will run for approx. 8 weeks with theory from 6.45pm until 8.45pm, then pool work from 9-10pm
The venue for the theory session and water sessions will be same as above NPLQ course
OPEN WATER LIFEGUARD

Pre-requisites -

OWL candidates should have experience of participating in a variety of open water activities in a variety of venues. Formal evidence (certificates etc.) is not required, but it should be highlighted that candidates with no experience of open water are likely to find the workshop very challenging

Hold current RLSS UK NPLQ (National Pool Lifeguard Qualification) (or equivalent)

Be able to complete a continuous swim of at least 400 metres in a pool

Be able to dive to a depth of up to two metres
This award remains valid for two years as long as the NPLQ is maintained. If the NPLQ expires then so does the OWL.
Equipment required on course: = Wetsuit, Footwear for the lake with soles; Sun Cream
Lunch required - tea & coffee provided.
This is run by another Approved Training Provider who also help with ESLS courses.

NRASTCR
National Rescue Award for Swimming
Teachers and Coaches (NRASTCR)
Minimum age of 16 years on date of course completion.
This is a course & final assessment in practical lifesaving skills that are required by anyone teaching swimming or other programmed activity in a pool. It is endorsed by the ASA;
ISTC & ISRM. It is not an alternative qualification for Lifeguards.
It is suitable for new candidates and those who require renewal of a current certificate.
You should be prepared for a little "homework" between sessions. Renewal candidates can miss the first two sessions.
Note:- The test involves the recovery of a dummy from the bottom of the pool (between 1.6 m and 3.8 metres) and this depth is recorded on the final certificate.
Candidates must be capable of swimming 50m in light clothing.
You are advised to check with your pool operator if this is award is suitable for your employer. All RLSS Awards are valid for two years.
Times and Costs
5 Friday evenings from 7-10pm
(2 hours theory at a nearby Scout HQ followed by 1 hour of water-work at Southgate Leisure Centre)
Assessment is planned for the last session.
Cost of £65 (£55 for renewals).
